Okay, here's the story
Neil wanted an awesome costume, and he decided a zombie was the way to go. He picked up a second-hand suit, and tied it to the back of his car, and drug it around town and on the freeway, go give it an authentic "weathered" look. Then, he brought it home and "zombiefied" it by burying it in his backyard for a week before the party. Thus, the incredible realism.
